DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Federal prosecutors say the woman who ran several home-invasion robbery crews that were responsible for a string of crimes across north Texas and several other states is going to prison.
44-year-old Chaka Castro was convicted on federal racketeering, assault and firearms charges and sentenced to 37 years in federal prison.
Prosecutors say Castro supervised two-man crews and provided them with the locations of families from India or southeast Asia to rob.
During the home-invasion robberies, the suspects would conceal their faces with bandanas, threaten and restrain family members, then steal cash, jewelry and electronics.
The crews were connected to a string of robberies in Collin, Dallas and Tarrant Counties between 2011 and 2014. Federal prosecutors say they also committed similar robberies in Georgia, Ohio, Michigan and New York.
The case was tried in Michigan.
Federal prosecutors say they got help investigating the case from several law enforcement agencies in Texas including the Allen Police Department, the Coppell Police Department, the Flower Mound Police Department, the Carrollton Police Department, the Lewisville Police Department and the Southlake Police Department.
