DESOTO (1080 KRLD) - The husband of DeSoto City Council member Candice Quarles is now the target of a six-figure lawsuit to be filed by the DeSoto Economic Development Corporation.
Jeremiah Quarles is the former DEDC Chief Executive Officer who was accused of embezzling more than $100,000.
Last year, Jeremiah Quarles pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft charges and received two years on probation. He was also ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution.
But now, the DEDC board has decided to seek more money through a civil lawsuit.
Critics have called on Candice Quarles to step down, accusing her of benefiting from her husband's theft of tax money. She has consistently responded she did nothing wrong and will not resign.
