The jury in the aggravated assault trial of a former Mesquite Police Officer deliberated for several hours after getting the case on Friday, but did not reach a verdict. Derick Wiley is accused of using unnecessary force in the 2017 shooting of Lyndo Jones. Jones survived his injuries and testified in Wiley's trial.
This is the second time that prosecutors have tried Wiley in connection with the incident. The jury was unable to reach a verdict in his first trial in 2018.
The judge sent the jury in the current trial home Friday night. They will return to the courtroom on Monday at 9:00am to continue deliberations.
