MANSFIELD (1080 KRLD) - At tonight's game, Mansfield Lake Ridge High School will honor the memory of assistant football coach Billy Smith who died from thyroid cancer this week at the age of 49.
His long-time friend, head coach Kirk Thor remembers Smith as a man of "strong faith," who "believed in Jesus Christ and said he knew he was going to heaven."
Smith has coached at Lake Ridge since the school opened in 2012.
Tonight, the Eagles host South Grand Prairie and a moment-of-silence will be held in Smith's honor.
