DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The British automaker, McLaren, is moving its North American headquarters from New York City to Coppell. McLaren announced the move at a Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday morning.

"This is an international area, and the city is centrally located," says McLaren North America President Tony Joseph.

McLaren says moving its headquarters to Coppell puts the company within a three-hour flight to any of its dealerships in the United States. Joseph says Texas has also become one of McLaren's biggest markets, saying "Texans take a lot of pride in their cars."

"We're still a relatively new car company," he says. "With us, it's all about being able to educate people about who we are and what we are."

McLaren set up its North American headquarters in New York in 2010. The company says sales have increased 17 percent this year from 2018.

"The fact that this globally respected company -- with its reputation for luxury, performance and innovation -- chose Coppell is yet another example that Dallas-Fort Worth is the ideal location for international mobility and technology companies," Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Petroskey wrote in a statement.

McLaren will have a display at the 3rd Annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase September 28 at the Four Seasons Las Colinas. Tickets range from $25 to $100. Organizers say VIP tickets have sold out the previous two years. Tickets are available at luxurysupercarshowcase.com.

In addition to McLaren, Bentley, Jaguar, Karma, Land Rover, Lexus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Rolls Royce and Volvo will have cars on display.
