Like the memorial in Washington, the traveling wall contains the names of more than 58-thousand Americans who died during the Vietnam War.

"I've been talking to a lot of veterans who say they have attended the one in Washington, D.C.," said Saul Garza with the City of Garland, "and it is very touching just looking at the names. They were surprised how emotional they became."

Along with the wall, the organizers are setting up a mobile education center about the history of the Vietnam War. "You'll be able to see real mementos, real items from veterans and their stories will be there as well," Garza said. "I'm told they just replaced those items, so we'll be seeing them for the first time."

Volunteers expect to have the wall fully assembled by midnight on Wednesday. It will be on display in Garland through Sunday afternoon.

"It's a big honor, and it's a big learning experience for the public in terms of what our Vietnam Veterans went through...and the welcome they did not get back then," said Garza. "It's one way to honor them."
