DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Forty years ago Friday, the mercury at DFW International Airport touched a level it had never reached in the area's recorded history - and it may never happen again.
On June 26, 1980, the thermometer at DFW recorded an official high of 113 degrees. Then, the next day, it hit 113 again. And, on June 28, we had a 112-degree scorcher.
The temps recorded on that toasty trifecta of days stand as the three hottest readings recorded in Dallas-Fort Worth, going back to 1899.
NBC5 Senior Meteorologist David Finfrock was a five-year veteran of the station's weather staff in June 1980. He recalled that stretch of ultra-hot local weather as he talked with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
