THE COLONY (1080 KRLD) - He's only been on the job for a little more than a year, and he's already been named the 2019 Texas School Resource Officer of the Year.
Officer Omar Montemayor is just starting his second year as the resource officer for The Colony High School.
Montemayor has been working in law enforcement for more than a decade and says he's enjoying his new gig working with students.
His goal is to make every student and staff member feel safe at school.
He says returning to school has been good for him, explaining the students have inspired him to enroll at UNT to finish his degree and maybe consider a teaching career in the future.
Thank you to @TimCiescoNBC5 for visiting The Colony High School to feature our awesome @TASRO_org Officer of the Year, Omar Montemayor! Make sure to tune in to @NBCDFW on Wednesday morning (Aug. 28) at 5:45 and 6:45. -- #LISDculture pic.twitter.com/Vmu2FVzRnq
