The National Lacrosse League is expanding south into North Texas, placing its 14th franchise in Fort Worth. The new team will start play in the 2021-2022 season.

The majority owner of the team is Bill Cameron, who also owns the WNBA's Dallas Wings.

North Texas is a growing youth lacrosse market, but NLL games are played indoors on a smaller playing surface.

"It's a hybrid sport," says Managing Partner Greg Bibb. "It's high scoring, it's action packed, and I think it's tailor-made for North Texas sports fans."

The team will play at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, becoming the first professional team sports tenant for the facility.

Bibb says the organization will announce its team identity and hire a head coach and general manager later this fall.
