DALLAS (KRLD) - A poll from Emerson College of Texas voters show both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders lead president Trump here in head to head matchups, 52 to 48 percent.

Director of polling Spencer Kimball says "even some of the other top Democratic candidates like Pete Buttigieg and Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren were all competing with the president, but trailing in the head to head matchups by a couple of points."

President Trump won Texas by nine points in 2016. Kimball says he isn't leading by that margin against any of the Democratic candidates, including native sons Beto O'Rourke and Julian Castro.

Kimball says the president's approval rating in Texas is 49 percent and Governor Greg Abbott's is 50 percent. But senator John Cornyn's approval rating is 37 percent.

Kimball says of the field of Democrats vying to replace Cornyn, who is running for his fourth term, MJ Hegar polls highest at only 10 percent. He says either O'Rourke or Castro would do better.

"We did ask the question if both of them should run for president or maybe they should drop out and run for president, and more voters said Beto should drop out and run for senate than they did for Castro."
