DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - City officials across DFW are asking everyone to honor front line workers tonight by stepping outside and cheering.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price are teaming up to orchestrate the "DFWOvation," which they say serves as a thank you to all essential workers, from doctors and nurses to firefighter, sanitation workers and grocery store employees.

"We're asking the other communities to join in with us too," said Mayor Price. "And help DFW celebrate these people who are working so hard for us."City officials say the salute is an important show of respect. It's set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. Thursday and is expected to last about five minutes.

Officials say everyone should be respectful and remember social distancing practices when they step outside to cheer.
