DALLAS (KRLD) - The longtime Sears anchor store at North East Mall in Hurst is scheduled to close this fall.

The Hurst Sears is among 26 included on the latest list of closures released by the holding company that operates the struggling retailer.  A store in Texas City, near Houston, is also targeted for shutdown in October.  Liquidation sales at the two Texas stores are expected to begin around August 15.

The Sears at North East Mall opened in 1978.  Once it closes, the retailer will have only three traditional mall locations remaining in North Texas:  The Parks at Arlington, Hulen Mall in Fort Worth and Town East Mall in Mesquite.

Sears also operates several smaller stores and auto centers in the DFW area.

Founded in 1893, Sears came under new ownership earlier this year after a January bankruptcy auction.  It continues to operate just over 400 stores in the U.S., down from 3,500 in 2010.
