DALLAS (KRLD) - A company that specializes in virtual reality experiences is opening up a new outpost at NorthPark Center. Tickets are already on sale for the new Dreamscape VR center.
"In Dreamscape, we actually turn you in to an avatar. You move, you walk, you talk. You're in full contact all of your senses," said company co-founder Walter Parkes. "One of our show guides will help you into a very light backpack, some trackers on your hands and feet and a VR headset...and you're on your way."
The company will offer customers the choice of three different experiences - "The Curse of the Lost Pearl", "The Blu: Deep Rescue", and "Alien Zoo". It's working with the theater chain AMC to generate new content for the VR experience.
"We've always believed that by combining the emotional power of cinema and the thrill of theme park rides with state-of-the-art VR technology, we are able to deliver our customers the ultimate in wish fulfillment - becoming the hero of their own adventure," said Dreamscape CEO Bruce Vaughn.
The NorthPark location will the company's first outside of Los Angeles. "We're trying to provide the sort of experience you would normally only get at a theme park attraction at malls right in your neighborhood," said Parkes. The company found NorthPark to be an ideal spot to expand outside of Los Angeles. "The time I visited NorthPark I was really struck by the extent that it almost felt like a community center," said Parkes.
The grand opening for Dreamscape VR at NorthPark Center is set for August 15th. The company plans additional locations in Columbus, Ohio and in the New York/New Jersey area.
