One cyclist is dead and another is hurt in a crash in east Fort Worth.

It happened at around 6:30 a.m. on Dottie Lynn Pkwy. in east Fort Worth.

"Four cyclists were riding on the bridge (over Division St.), when a motorist hit them from behind," says Fort Worth Ofc. Buddy Calzada. "One of the cyclists, unfortunately, is deceased at the scene. A second cyclist in the group was transported to a local hospital.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the cyclist killed as Steven Cannon, 57, of Arlington.

The injured cyclist is an officer with the Arlington Police Department.

"The officer is a detective assigned to our crimes against children unit," says Arlington Police Lt. Christopher Cook; "one that is very well liked, not only within the department but in the community."

Cook says the injured officer, whose identity has not been released, is in good spirits but has very significant injuries.

"He is seriously injured," says Lt. Cook. "This is not something where he'll be walking out of the hospital today."

The two other cyclists in the group suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

"Our detectives and our officers on scene do believe that alcohol and drugs are not a factor in this," says Ofc. Calzada. "The individual that was driving the motor vehicle did remain on scene the entire time and is being cooperative with this investigation."
