FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth police officer accused of shooting and killing Atatiana Jefferson through a window in her home has resigned and may face charges.
At a Monday news conference, Fort Worth Police Chief Ed Kraus accounced that Officer Aaron Dean resigned following a deadly weekend shooting.
Chief Ed Krause said he had put Dean on detatched leave after the shooting. Since then Krause says things progressed quickly.
"Had the officer not resigned, he would have been fired" said Chief Kraus.
With his resignation, Dean is no longer protected by civil service regulations.
Krause says Dean's actions were not in line with policies or training, particularly since this was a welfare call not a call of an intruder.
There was another officer at the scene, according to police. She is now considered a witness.

The responding officer fired a shot through a window, killing Atatiana Jefferson.
Dean faces possible criminal charges, according to Chief Kraus.
