DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Businesses and arts groups are taking over some parking spots in downtown Dallas this afternoon for the 9th annual PARK(ing) Day.
Organizers say it's an opportunity to show the impact of more public spaces and green space downtown.

We're just trying to get people to re-imagine a space and the proper use for it. It doesn't necessarily have to be a parking space," said Douglas Prude, Economic Development and Planning Analyst with Downtown Dallas, Incorporated. "Putting some chairs out so people can relax or having a place where people can gather (means) more people on the street - the safer the street is, the better the economy is. "
This year's Park(ing) Day attracted architects, artists and high school students to transform the parking spaces into public spaces. This year's exhibits include a giant Scrabble board, a library, a garden, a pool, a bounce house and a foam pit.
"We have several art projects, a lot of people painting - it's fun stuff," said Prude. "I want people to come down, experience the spaces, and see what their city can really be."
