A school board member with the Red Oak ISD is in hot water today after comparing face masks mandates to Sharia law.
The comment was made during a school board meeting on Monday night. Since then, several people have expressed outrage at the comment, calling it racist and inaccurate.
Others are defending the school board member, saying she wasn't being racist and people are overreacting.
The Red Oak ISD Superintendent and School Board President both issued statements addressing the incident, saying it does not reflect the values and beliefs of the of the district.
Not word yet on whether further action will be taken.
