Students at Richland High School are pushing to change their mascot from the "Rebels" to something less controversial. 

RHS has sported the Rebels mascot since 1961, and a lot of folks, students and non-students alike, say a new mascot is long overdue. 


Yesterday folks took to the streets, marching along Rufe Snow Drive in protest. 

The march ended with protesters kneeling with the North Richland Hills Police Chief Jimmy Perdue.

"I want you to know guys, I'm proud of all of ya'll for what you're standing for," Purdue said. "I stand with you in that regard."

The Birdview School District released a seven word statement regarding the situation: "We are thoughtfully listening to our community."
