DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - SMU Quarterback Shane Buechele and his girlfriend, Paige Vasquez, delivered a $50,000 gift to Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson on Thursday.
The gift will go to the Mayor's COVID-19 Assistance Fund.
Buechele says the goal for their GoFundMe account was originally $20,000, but the generousity of givers quickly expanded the goal.
"It's been really cool seeing how many different people around the city of Dallas have helped out," says Buechele. "Just in a short time, about a month and a half, we were able to accomplish our goal."
There's a committee that determines the best use of the money.
Buechele and Vasquez hope that the funds are spread to different initiatives, like food drives, to help the greatest number of people possible weather the economic storm.
