IRVING (1080 KRLD) - Swearing-in ceremonies for new police officers are always emotional.
All swearing-ins are special but every once in a while one tugs at your ❤️strings a little more than others. Yesterday, at Off. Benning's swearing-in she was surprised by her son, who has been stationed over seas & has not seen in over 2 yrs, would be the one pinning her badge pic.twitter.com/H3TWxhmOP8

One such ceremony in Irving, however, took that emotion to a whole new level.
Erika Benning was sworn in as an officer with the Irving Police Department on Thursday.
But just before Police Chief Jeff Spivey was about to pin the badge on Ofc. Benning's uniform, he had a little surprise for her.
Walking into the room was Benning's son, who she hasn't seen in more than two years as he has been stationed overseas.
Immediately, Benning was overcome with emotion, and there was not a dry eye in the room as Benning's son did the pinning honors.
