DALLAS (KRLD) - Dallas police say a man with a gun tried to escape Thursday night when they moved in to arrest him for stealing a car. Officers were running license plate numbers in a parking lot near 35E and Regal Row just before midnight.
Police say one of the license numbers belonged to a car that had been stolen from an auto show.
They say officers waited for someone to get into the car. When a suspect tried to get in, police say they walked to him and found the suspect had a gun.
Police called for back-up, and the suspect ran off. They followed him to a motel near 35E and Mockingbird, about half a mile away.
Police say the suspect had dropped his gun along a fence nearby. Officers found the man hiding under a car in the parking lot. He was arrested, and no one was hurt.
Dallas police say they also recovered at least one stolen car. They are still investigating if anyone else tried to help the suspect escape or was helping him steal cars. Friday morning, the suspect's name had not been released.
