He says this is being done out of an abundance of caution, and those affected as are asked to stay home and regularly check their temperatures.
He says the purpose of this is to slow the introduction of the virus into the US. "We've had just a dozen cases up to this point in the US, and we want to keep it that way. It's about making sure we're monitoring people who may have been infected. Again, the vast majority of people were not in a position where they would have been infected by this virus. We want to make sure of that so we don't get in a situation where we see the virus spreading in Texas and the United States."
This action is separate from the quarantine at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. 91 Americans are being held there for two weeks. Those people were flown to the US last week and are staying at hotels on the base.
