Texans will soon have to prove they're searching for work to continue receiving unemployment benefits.
The Texas Workforce Commission is reinstating the work-search requirement on July 6th. That means people will have to show they engaged in at least three work-search activities.
Self-employed workers will have prove they took at least three steps to reopen their businesses.
Furloughed employees with set return dates are exempt from the requirement.Close to 2 and a half million Texans have filed for unemployment since mid-March. That's about four, typical years' worth of claims.
The statewide unemployment rate hit an all-time record high of 12.8 percent in April.
