AUSTIN (1080 KRLD) - Students at the University of Texas have taken full advantage of today being National Voter Registration Day.
Kassie Phebillo is with the Student organization Texas Votes. They registered hundreds of students on Tuesday, but she says they've been successful all semester long. "We've registered over 3,000 student already this semester. So we were at things like "move-in"…we've been in over 100 classrooms doing voter registration...the organization that we are has also nearly doubled."
Phebillo has been registering students on campus for the past 5 years. She says for this year's National Voter Registration Day they've tried to make it about more than just registration and about the entire process. "So we have a table for registration, we have a table for taking a pledge to vote and remind friends to also vote, and we have a table that's all about what's on the ballot. Our table is making your plan to go vote, like where are you going to vote, what day are you going to vote, are you going to early vote, what ID do you need."
This is the 8th year for National Voter Registration Day.
