LUBBOCK (1080 KRLD) - Texas Tech president Lawrence Schovanec says this will be a measured and careful phased in return to the Lubbock campus. "We've been analyzing and planning for this for several weeks, and we recognize when we come back to campus it is going to be different.  We're going to have to do a lot of work to make sure we enforce social distancing and control the density of students in classrooms and residential facilities."

He says their top priority is the safety of students, faculty and staff. He says distance learning just isn't the same thing as being on campus.  "I believe that this pandemic has taught us there's tremendous value in the traditional residential experience that can't be replaced by the virtual experience"Students could actually return before the fall.  Schovanec says Summer I classes will be held online, but Summer II could possibly be held on campus. The final decision regarding Red Raider athletics have not been made. Schovanec believes they'll know what will happen by mid to late July. "I would also emphasize that things may not be as we traditionally see football.  Are we going to have a 12 game schedule?  We'll see.  I think we all recognize that the impact of football on the athletic budget is so significant that we're going to do everything we can to have some sort of football."
