Thousands of residents across southeast Texas and western Louisiana are still without power and water after hurricane Laura cut a path of destruction through both states.

Following the storm, at least 750,000 homes and businesses were without power in Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas, according to poweroutage.us

Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter cautioned that there was no timetable for restoring electricity and that water-treatment plants “took a beating,” resulting in barely a trickle of water coming out of most faucets in the city of 80,000 people, according to the Associated Press.

Roads across the entire area affected by Laura remain obstructed with downed trees, power lines, and debris causing officials to say that it could be weeks before power is restored to most areas.

"There are still risks left behind by the storm. Continue to monitor your local news, heed the warnings of your local officials and do what’s needed to be safe" said Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards.

The Louisiana Department of Health is estimating that more than 220,000 homes are currently without water.

"We think there are going to be people who realize relatively quickly that either they can’t stay in their homes or can’t go back to their homes,” said Christina Stephens, a spokeswoman for Gov. Edwards.

Laura was blamed for at least six deaths in the hardest-hit parts of Louisiana, according to the Associated Press.

Four people were killed by falling trees in Louisiana, including a 14-year-old girl and a 68-year-old man. Authorities say another man died of carbon monoxide poisoning after bringing a generator inside his residence. Officials say one man drowned in a boat that sank during the storm.

One person was killed when a tree fell through a mobile home in Sabine County, Texas according to KETK.
