DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - It's time to get rid of your Christmas tree.Holiday house fires spike this time of year and in part, that's because of the trees."They're like having gasoline all over your living room," said Haltom City's Deputy Fire Chief Fred Knapp. "As soon as Chirstmas is over, get your tree outside."Knapp says Christmas trees start dying the moment they're cut down, which means they're dry the moment you buy them.It only take a few seconds for a Christmas tree to become fully engulfed in flames. Within minutes, Knapp says the fire will spread to your home. Every year, Knapp says houses burn down well into January because people just won't get rid of their trees."Don't get complacent," Knapp said. "Don't say, 'Oh, I'll get the tree tomorrow, I'll get the tree tomorrow.' Get it out of your house on Dec. 26."
