MESQUITE (KRLD) - Two students are in custody after police responded to a shooting near Mesquite High School this afternoon.
Authorities responded to a shooting call at 120 West Main Street and located a victim who had been hit by gunfire. The victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
Police say a witness saw two male suspects run away from the shooting scene toward the school.
Upon viewing surveillance footage, the school was immediately placed on lockdown. Both suspects were located and placed in custody without incident by responding officers.
Mesquite officials are not releasing the students' names while adding that they are investigating what their roles were in the shooting.
Authorities say no weapons were recovered from the school.
