TEXAS (1080 KRLD)- Former White House advisor Steve Bannon and three others have been charged with stealing from donors.  The "We Build the Wall" crowdfunding campaign raised  25 million dollars to build a section of border wall in Texas and New Mexico.

ACLU of Texas Attorney David Donatti believes this is the beginning of this story.  He believes the Department of Homeland Security was involved with the organization.

"They were closely interacting with each other, they had several meetings including in Washington DC.  That senior CBP officials visited the site where this group was building a private border wall, and they have not disclosed any information about that relationship.  We have demanded information about the relationship between the Department of Homeland Security and We Build the Wall, but also the relationship between DHS and Fisher Industries."Donatti says We Build the Wall hired North Dakota based Fisher Industries,  and after that, the US government awarded the North Dakota based contractor two huge contracts for building sections of the wall.  One was for four hundred million and another one for one point three billion dollars. It marked the first time the US had hired the company. He says one of the people indicted, military veteran Brian Kolfage, went on the record last year to say he had multiple meetings with the Department of Homeland Security about the private wall project. The ACLU of Texas filed a Freedom of Information Act Request in 2019 and has not gotten a response.

"We're going to continue pushing.  We're going to either appeal this or go directly to a federal court to demand they provide the information that we're requesting."A message left with the Department of Homeland Security was not returned.
