UT San Antonio Offering Course On Selena Quintanilla

It's been 25 years since Texas native Selena Quintanilla was murdered, but now her legacy will be honored in a new college course.

Starting this fall students at UT San Antonio will be able to take a new class focusing on the life of Selena Quintanilla, also known as the 'Queen of Tejano music.' 

The new course iscalled Selena: A Mexican American Identity and Experience, and it will look deeper into the stars image, the use of language and media coverage surrounding her career and death to map-out the historical trajectory of Mexican-American's in Texas.

Course instructor Sonya Aleman is a professor of Mexican American studies says a quote in the Selena movie exemplifies the courses study of being bilingual and bicultural.The class will be a part of UTSA's newly established Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department.
