NEWARK (1080 KRLD) - One neighborhood in Wise County has been hit by vehicle burglars for two nights in a row this week.
For two consecutive mornings, people who live in the Chisholm Springs subdivision just off the 287 Decatur Cutoff got in their vehicles to go to work, only to notice that someone had rummaged through them overnight.
Corey Clendening's home surveillance cameras captured video of the thieves at work.
"We saw them coming in groups in vehicles, trucks," says Clendening, "and essentially, they were scouting the area."
Specifically, the burglars were looking for vehicles whose doors were left unlocked.
Clendening's wife's vehicles were among those hit -- fortunately, they didn't make off with much.
"Maybe two or three dollars in chance," says Clendening. "Nothing serious."
Video surveillance shows two people getting out of a white Nissan Frontier crew cab pickup truck, with the getaway driver still inside.
One of Clendening's images shows one of them holding what appears to be a gun.
As of Wednesday morning, all three are still on the loose.
Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin says there is one thing homeowners can do to ensure that their vehicles are not targets.
"If possible, put them inside the garage and lower the garage door," says Sheriff Akin. "That will negate all these petty burglaries."
