This happened at a gas station across the street from Polytechnic High School.
Fort Worth Police Ofc. Buddy Calzada says three people were involved.
"In the middle of that fight ... someone else was summoned or called upon to assist, and that individual had a handgun," says Calzada. "One person is responsible for the stabbing, and a separate individual is responsible for the shooting."
The student's injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
There were plenty of witnesses.
"There were a lot of people around when this first went off. It was a very busy scene prior to this fight."
Polytechnic High School immediately went on lockdown and remained that way for the rest of the school day.
Calzada says while the motive remains unclear, the department's gang unit has taken over the investigation.
