NORTH TEXAS (1080 KRLD)- Walmart is transforming 160 of its store parking lots into full on drive-in movie theaters, and 14 are planned to "pop up" right here in North Texas.

With the pandemic driving crowds away from traditional movie theaters, drive-ins are suddenly back in style. Walmart isn't the only one to capitalize on the nostalgic craze. A pop-up outdoor theater recently opened in Richardson, and Fun Movie Grill in Irving transformed its parking lot into a drive-in as well.

Still, it seems there aren't enough drive-ins to meet the sudden demand. Outdoor theaters across DFW have reported selling out due to the increase in demand.

Enter the Walmart parking lot conversions. The retail giant is planning 320 family-friendly showings through October, featuring hit movies and special appearances from filmmakers and celebs.
