WYLIE (KRLD) - A shocking death of a teen in Wylie.

Students and teachers are mourning over the sudden death of a Wylie High School football star.

Azaan Abdellatif was a senior and a cornerback for the Wylie Pirates.

Principal Virdie Montgomery says the campus was overcome with grief and counselors were available to assist any students who needed them.

"In my 43 years, I've never seen a campus respond like they did today. Many kids had to go home and you can feel it all day long. Just an intense feeling of pain and anguish all day, " Montgomery says.

Police in Murphy says they got a call that Abdellatif was found dead in bed. His parents say he went to sleep the night before and never woke up.

No cause of death is known at this time.

A candlelight vigil will be held tomorrow night at 6 for the football star who had been honored recently by being named to the 2019 All-District team.
