DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A business owner in North Texas is offering temporary jobs to federal government employees who have been furloughed because of the government shutdown.
Peek's Floor Company has five stores in North Texas, located in Dallas, Flower Mound, Frisco, Grapevine and Richardson.
"We love America. We are so blessed to live in this nation," says owner John Stacy. "We just look for ways to give back."
Stacy says he could hire up to 100 people for up to 20 days. He says he has jobs in different departments, from maintenance to filing paperwork.
"Our hope is that this would inspire other private companies to do the same thing," Stacy says.
Across the country, about 800,000 people have been furloughed by the shutdown or are working without pay. They missed their first paycheck last Friday.
