RICHARDSON (1080 KRLD) - A Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) train hit a car as it approached a station Thursday morning, shutting down service on the Red and Orange lines in Richardson.
DART says a car was on the tracks at the Buckingham Road crossing about 6:00 a.m. when the train hit.
The driver of the car died at the scene. A passenger in the car was taken to the hospital.
Two people on the train were hurt. DART says one person went to the hospital; the other was treated and released at the scene.
"We're still investigating whether the car went around the crossing arms," says DART's Morgan Lyons.
Passengers were taken by bus to the Spring Valley station, about a quarter of a mile away. Lyons says both directions of the Red and Orange lines will stay closed while DART investigates and clears the tracks.
Passengers will be taken by bus between Spring Valley and LBJ Central.
