Real Gun Or Fake Gun?

ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - They're an incredible danger to the community, and they're not even real.

Fake guns are on the rise, and police departments are understandably concerned.

"Officers can not readily distinguish between a real gun and a fake gun," Lieutenant Christopher Cook with the Arlington Police Department said.

In the last two weeks, Arlington Police have responded to at least two incidents where very real-looking fake guns were recovered in investigations. One airsoft gun looked like an AK-47, and two BB guns, with flashlights attached, were recovered in an investigation of a shooting.

"We know there's going to be an incident where an officer shoots and kills someone (carrying) a BB gun," Cook said.

Cook added that they want help from fake gun manufactures and legislators to make it illegal to construct fake guns that look real.

This was taken off our streets inside a stolen car.Looks like an AK-47- It's heavy, it's metal, & looks like the real thing.Guess what? It's an Airsoft replica gun that a 15-year old teen was carrying in the stolen car.No reason for a replica Airsoft to look like this! pic.twitter.com/4L0uCA4xpN
