GRAND PRAIRIE (1080 KRLD) - A hit and run accident, a car fire, and heroic efforts by North Texas police. It happened this morning on westbound I-30 at McArthur in Grand Prairie.
According to reports, a suspected drunk driver hit the median on Interstate 30 in Grand Prairie, and the van traveling behind crashed into that car.
Arlington Police Seargent Michael Chitty was heading to work when he saw the crash.
Sgt. Chitty rushed to help. He says four people managed to crawl free of the van as the engine caught fire.
Sergeant Chitty helped pull one person away from the flames. All four had non-life threatening injuries.
Sergeant Chitty had detained the suspected drunk driver, but that person ran off as Chitty was helping the victims.
A Grand Prairie officer later arrested the suspect, 23-year-old Jesus Gutierrez. Police say drugs were also found in his car.
