ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - Coffee isn't the only thing brewing at Starbucks. North Texas police are looking for two men suspected of stealing laptops from Starbucks customers. Police say two male suspects have been targeting Apple MacBooks, and at least 12 incidents have occurred since January. Arlington has reported eight different locations alone.
"They're entering the Starbucks. They're standing around customers, that are just sitting at the location, enjoying coffee or having meetings," said Arlington Police Sergeant Karen Standback. "They're then reaching down and just stealing the laptops then running outside the door, to someone waiting in a car."
Both suspects are black males who are about 20 years old and 125 pounds; one is around 6 feet and one is around 5 feet 7 inches. Whether the suspects can access the computers, or not, doesn't seem to matter. Their theft tactics are more bold than the dark roast coffee.
"Some of these incidents occurred where the person is sitting there on a laptop, and then it was taken by the suspects," said Standback.
Preventing this may be difficult because being aware isn't the quick fix. Typically, Starbucks is littered with people working away while enjoying their coffee. Plus, people are constantly flowing in and out of the coffee shop, so suspicious behavior may be difficult to spot.
