DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The remains of a Texas soldier killed during the Korean War have been identified.

Army Officials say 18-year-old Private first class Herschel Riggs of Rio Grande City was declared as missing in action in July of 1950. It's after combat action against North Korean forces.

Three years later, the U.S. military declared him dead.

In 2017, investigators using DNA and dental tests confirmed the remains buried at the National Memorial of the Pacific in Honolulu were those of Riggs.

He will be buried on May 25th in Pearsall, Texas.
