DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Police got a call about a shooting on Utah Avenue, a few blocks east of South Oak Cliff high school, about 1:30 this morning.
They found a man in the street with a gunshot wound in his chest. He died at the hospital.
Police say he was Christopher Whitfield, the 21-year-old son of Dallas ISD trustee Maxie Johnson.
Johnson was elected in May. He's also the pastor of New Morning Star Baptist Church in west Dallas.
Fellow trustee Miguel Solis called Johnson the epitome of a great father, one who put his heart and soul into raising his children.
Dallas police don't know what led to the shooting of Whitfield, and they have not made any arrests.
