Southwest, American Airlines Cancel Flights Due To Threat Of Severe Weather

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Southwest Airlines has canceled flights from Dallas Love Field between the hours of 6pm - 10pm Wednesday, due to the threat of severe weather across North Texas. 

A release from the Dallas-based airline says, "Based on the forecast for tonight’s storms, we’ve proactively canceled about 100 flights to and from Dallas Love Field. We encourage customers to check their flights status at Southwest.com. Our number one concern is the safety of all our customers and employees. "

American Airlines also announced that they are 'reducing operations' ahead of the storms that are expected to arrive in the area late this afternoon through this evening. 

Flight affected include mainline flights. American says there will be no arrivals at DFW International Airport after 9 p.m. (Central), and only two departures after 9 p.m. (Central). For regional flights, there will be no arrivals after 8 p.m., and no departures after 9 p.m. American says they also limiting the number of aircraft on the ground overnight.

A statement from American Airlines says: "Very limited regional aircraft will remain overnight at DFW this evening. On our mainline fleet, we have reduced the number of aircraft overnight by 50%, and will look to use as much hangar space as possible to protect our fleet."
