FRISCO (1080 KRLD) - Students are returning to class at Wakeland High School in Frisco Tuesday for the first time since two classmates were killed in a car crash in Central Texas.
Hayden Weissman, 18, and Payton Weissman, 16, died while traveling with family in Hays County, between Austin and San Antonio Saturday night.
Police say another driver hit the family's car on the I-35 frontage road near Kyle. Hayden and Payton Weissman died. Their sister and parents were injured.
"She was the person you wanted to be your friend," says Lissy Gil, who says she got to know Hayden in English class. "You wanted to her friend."
Police say the 61 year old driver who caused the crash tried to run from the scene. He was arrested, and a toxicology report is pending.
Wakeland High School had a scheduled day off Monday. The school had extra counselors on hand Tuesday for students who knew the Weissmans.
The Frisco Fellowship of Christian Athletes held a vigil in front of the school Tuesday morning.
