DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - If you are looking to drive your next vehicle for at least 200,000 miles, a large SUV is your best bet.
According to a new list from the car-buying website iseecars.com, eight of the ten vehicles most likely to reach 200,000 are SUVs.
Here are the top five:
Toyota Sequoia - 7.4% make 200,000 miles
Chevrolet Suburban - 5%
Ford Expedition - 5%
GMC Yukon XL - 4%
Toyota 4Runner 3.9%
Jerry Reynolds - "The Car Pro" - is not surprised most of the vehicles near the top of the list are SUVs. He said, "You know, the majority of those on that list, they're all based on truck chassis. And trucks are just tougher than sedans and the small SUVs."
A pair of pickups, the Honda Ridgeline and the Toyota Tacoma, also made the top ten on the iseecars.com list.
Among passenger cars, the Toyota Avalon was most likely to run at least 200,000 miles, followed by the Honda Odyssey minivan and the Honda Accord. The Toyota Camry was eighth.
Reynolds said there is another reason large SUVs dominated the list. Those vehicles skew toward older buyers. He said, "If you look at the baby boomers and how they were brought up to take care of a car, you know, some of them still do that 3,000-mile oil change, even though that's a total waste of money. But they just take care of them better, and I think that's part of this list."
As long as proper maintenance is performed, Reynolds said more drivers should expect to keep their vehicle for at least 200,000 miles. In his opinion, cars are built better than ever today, and he credited Japanese automakers for prompting the entire industry to raise its game. Reynolds said, "Everybody now is all about owner loyalty, and once somebody buys your brand, you want their next car to be your brand. They were forced to make them better. Cars today are much better than they've ever been before, and the outlook for the future is even better."
