DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas police SWAT team responded to a report of a robbery at the Tom Thumb near Belt Line and Preston Friday morning. Police received a 911 call about 5:30 a.m.
The first officers to arrive arrested one person but believed a second robber may have been inside the store. The SWAT team was called to search for a second suspect.
"They did what they do," says Deputy Chief Albert Martinez. "The SWAT team came in and set up their own perimeter and evaluated how to make entry and to determine if the other suspect was in there."
Police evacuated neighboring businesses.
"I was concerned about letting my co-workers know so they don't try to get in the store," said one man who works at a pet store. He was watching from the sidewalk with several others who work in the same strip mall. "We have dogs in the boarding facility that could get injured. That was my main concern."
Police are now looking at surveillance tape to develop a description of the second robber. They are increasing patrols nearby while they search.
Dallas police say the same two people may have robbed a restaurant in Northwest Dallas Thursday night.
