SAGINAW (1080 KRLD) - A 16-year-old boy shot dead in Saginaw Sunday evening tried robbing the man who shot him, police say.
"We had two males — a black male and a Hispanic male — approach a homeowner who was in his garage," says Saginaw Assistant Police Chief Russell Ragsdale. "(One of them) produced a firearm and attempted to rob the homeowner."
That teenager was identified as Jarrius Parker, 16, who was about to enter his junior year at Chisholm Trail High School.
The homeowner, however, turned the tables on the would-be robbers.
"The homeowner produced his own firearm and shot the black male (Parker) who was armed," says Ragsdale.
Parker was shot in the head and torso and died shortly before 7:00 Sunday evening at Medical City Alliance.
Investigators say it does not appear that Parker and the other robber knew their target.
"It seems to be random," says Ragsdale, "and we do not have a motive at this time.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
"We're still following up on leads and witness testimony to make some final decisions there," Ragsdale says. "But at this point, there are no charges against the homeowner.
