Testimony Resumes Monday Morning in Amber Guyger Murder Trial

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The trial of former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger resumes at 9:30 Monday morning. Since the jury is sequestered, the judge ordered testimony to continue Saturday.

The jury heard only about five minutes of testimony from the Texas Ranger who was the lead investigator in the case. Guyger's lawyers called David Armstrong to testify about how the stress of the situation may have affected Guyger's senses.

Guyger's lawyers asked Armstrong how her senses might have been affected by a high-stress situation.

"You may not hear at the normal volume you normally would because you're under stress," Armstrong said. "You may have vision-narrowing or 'tunnel vision,' which means you are only focusing on what is directly in front of you, not in your periphery. You may also experience short-term memory loss."

Prosecutors then asked Armstrong to confirm the shorts Botham Jean was wearing did not have pockets, showing that his hands would have been visible.

While the jury only heard about five minutes of testimony, the judge and lawyers spent more time in court Saturday. Guyger's lawyers wanted to certify a former Dallas police deputy chief and Dallas ISD police chief as an expert witness.

After about 45 minutes of questioning without the jury present, the judge ruled Craig Miller could not offer his opinion on whether Guyger was reasonable in shooting Jean or if he believed Jean was ducking when he was shot.
