DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A new law that takes effect Sunday, September first lets Texans hunt one critter without a license...feral hogs.

Stormy King with Texas Parks and Wildlife says several years ago a bill was passed that said you didn't need a license if you were the landowner or the landowner's authorized agent.

King says the new law clears things up.  "The wording wasn't that clear.  We were in support of taking the landowner agent and depredation requirement out of the bill and make it plain and simple that you don't need a license to hunt hogs on private land."

He says these hogs are destructive and cost landowners a fortune.  "Everyone recognizes the fact they're a huge burden and problem in this state."

You still need a license to hunt feral hogs on public land and you still need to pass a hunter safety course.
