DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Insurance Council of Texas is urging many Texans to get ready for the hurricane season.
The Atlantic hurricane season starts June first.
Mark Hanna with the Insurance Council of Texas says people along the texas coast really need to review their homeowner and auto insurance plans.
Hanna says, "Take care of your insurance needs today rather than risk a storm forming in the gulf and trying to scramble for coverage. You cannot purchase a windstorm policy once a named storm is in the gulf and a flood insurance policy takes effect 30 days after purchase."
Hanna also says people need to update their evacuation plans, update their emergency safety kit and make inventory of your property.
The last two hurricanes to hit Texas, Hurricanes Harvey and Ike, in 2017 and 2008, caused billions of dollars in auto, home, and flood losses.
