MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - The Texas Department of Transportation will announce its plan to expand Highway 380 in Collin County Monday. TxDOT will start a series of open houses Monday night.
Highway 380 has become one of the most congested roads in Collin County, and state demographers say Collin County's population is on pace to exceed Dallas County by 2045.
TxDOT has spent the past year looking at options to expand 380.
One proposal would transform Highway 380 into a limited access highway with frontage roads. The McKinney Chamber of Commerce says that plan would force 300 businesses to close along the corridor. More than half of those businesses would be in McKinney.
The McKinney Chamber of Commerce says widening 380 would also impede operations for Raytheon, which is the city's biggest employer.
Another proposal would run north of 380's current route. The City of McKinney prefers that route, connecting to the current highway in Farmersville and running north of New Hope and Princeton.
At the meetings this week, TxDOT will present one preferred alignment. Meetings are scheduled Monday, Tuesday and Thursday:
Monday, May 66-8 p.m.Russell A Steindam Courts Building, 2100 Bloomdale Road, McKinney
Tuesday, May 76-8 p.m.Princeton High School, 1000 E. Princeton Drive, Princeton
Thursday, May 96-8 p.m.Lorene Rogers Middle School, 1001 Coit Road, Prosper
